The
artists have created an exhibition entitled "LEONARDO-STYLE
FLYING MACHINES". The
subject is a poetical and scientific itinerary about human flying
imagination from the very beginning and backdrop, inspired by
two Leonardo da Vinci's drawings: "the big cross bow" and "the
perfect holy man". |

During
the exposition, a huge wing built after Leonardo's sketches is displayed.
Due to its size (6m x 2m) and unusual design, this device is always very appreciated and gather a fair amount of interest from the public. |

Eventually two conferences can be added: "The history of Aviation from the beginning to 1909", and "Leonardo da Vinci's method". Eventually, the exibition can be modified and adapted to fit a particular place, event or condition.

Thumbing through the literature about the history of aircrafts and flying men, we often come across the flying machine of the Jesuit priest Bartolomeu Lourenço de GUSMAO built in 1709 and known as the "Passarola". DESCRIPTION OF THE EXHIBITION : Several designs of the "Passarola" with different sizes and colors, birds styles for the ship stem, treatment of the feathers, wings or tails… as we can see them on different models. A wing, an element of the ship stem, a few big pulleys, globes, a big compass etc… all elements possibly belonging to the real "Passarola". Many big sized drawings (120 x 150 m) representing graphical researches, sketches, studies of the ship stem, technical studies etc. as well as well known sketches of the "Passarola Mazes as well as maps of the Joao V. palace.
The exhibition "Eolienne" is a complicated and inspired research which shows how an artistic and poetical look, connected to the great universal laws, can help us know the world. "Eolienne" will show some drawings and pictures on the subject of whirling movements, cosmographics works as well as three-dimensional objects. In particular the "landscapes tables" which show all sorts of events: whirling, air, mini tornados, action on water, sandhill etc. We will show as well fountains of a certain type with some beautiful spiral movements of water and their similarities to the air movements. We will mention as well the researches of D'Arcy Thompson (with an installation of goat horns and merino rams) who pointed out the mathematical proximity between all whirling forms seen in the movements of liquids and the rhythms of growth and development of horns or shells etc… Our poetical and scientific thinking process is an artistic communication of quality towards a large audience .
